  • Second Game Crash?

Nintendo, once the company that saved gaming, is now facing backlash for filing patents that could let it claim ownership over common gameplay mechanics, sparking fears it could stifle creativity and harm both major studios and indie developers alike.

  • So… Doctor Who Just Regenerated Into Rose Tyler?

According to writer Robert Shearman, the 15th Doctor’s regeneration into Billie Piper has basically put a full stop on the entire Doctor Who story. That’s a wild way to end things if he’s right. After all these years, do you think this is a fitting way to close the loop or does it feel more like the show’s run out of ideas?

Jumanji 3 is 35% funded by the state as California fights to keep production in the state, but is it time tax payers got a say on this?

Gavin Newsom scored a major win when he increased California tax credits from $350 million to $750 million, and now the state is sinking up to $335 million in 52 films. This increase is aimed at boosting filming days in LA, which had hit an all-time low as producers flocked to other states, such as Ohio, where credits are up to 30% and with far fewer hurdles than in California.
However, after looking at the films getting the biggest cuts, I have to ask the question: are these films really in desperate need of a state bailout? Jumanji's producers apparently wouldn't produce in the state unless their cut was increased from 20 to 35 percent. Heat 2 is also getting a huge chunk of the credits. However, these are the same established studios that most would argue have the least need, and yet, make bigger demands.
Meanwhile, Indies are struggling with the most basic of funding. If California is so desperate to boost the industry, then the state probably shouldn't be giving all the money to producers who feel like they are doing Californians a favor by filming in the state. Is it time taxpayers started voting on who gets these huge cuts, because I'm pretty sure, $335 would produce a lot more and even better original films than what these entitled producers have to offer. Let's be honest, are Cafornians desperate enough to sink $50 million plus in Jumanji? Really?

Is Fallout now a better TV show than The Last of US?

Login to view embedded media There is a huge battle for the best TV show based on a video game here and I think Fallout is winning.
Fallout Season 2 is set to release in Dec on Prime Video, and now I'm looking at Walton Goggins' partnership with Ella Purnell and thinking it is way better than what Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay have in the last two seasons of The Last Of Us. My biggest concern with The Last of Us is that the creators ran out of content and chose to go political, and the moment the whole thing went woke and all of a sudden, Ramsay was someone's dad, they lost half the nation.
Fallout, on the other hand, is pure class. I don't feel the pressure to lean anywhere politically when watching, and the story is so captivating that I still look forward to the adventure, even though I know what is going to happen.

Johny Depp is back

Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, directed by Ti West is the film to watch out for in Dec 2026 as it will star Johnny Depp in the lead as Ebenezer Scrooge on his return to a major film role in Hollywood. This has been a long time coming, and after the disastrous legal battle he has had with Amber Heard, I think Depp won't mess up this chance when he comes back to the limelight.

I understand, a Christmas comedy isn't Pirates of the Caribbean, but it is a great first step in a comeback that many people would love to see. It is so sad however, that some people still consider him an evil wife beater, which is why he hasn't hit major mile stones since his court win. I would really love to see him at his best again though bacause the guy is truly ta

Justice League Unlimited #12 - Batman Beyond Identity Reveal Is A Kick In The Junk

Okay, so, if you've been paying attention to DC canon recently, you'll know that recent events have left a handful of time-displaced Justice Leaguers trapped in our time.

They've been teased in the background for some time, but in today's JLU #12, they properly identified everyone on the team:

Justice League Unlimited 01112 (2025) 010@0.5x.jpg

First off, personally, this feels like a KICK IN THE DICK.

90's Aquaman, Post-Crisis Peeg, Warrior Guy Gardner, Electric Superman, Kingdom Come Alan Scott, and Batman Beyond are some of my weirdly specific favorite versions of those heroes. I was so excited to see them together - especially Supes and Bats - and now I have to face the fact that it's not Terry, but the MONKEY PAWEST of MONKEY PAWS in Tim Drake, who took up the mantle during the awful Future's End event.

The New 52 - Futures End 047-4@0.5x.jpg

It also seems like a miscommunication happened here, because only one Batman Beyond was shown during the Justice League's time shenanigans, and they've already established that Terry is on the newly--introduced-comic-version of the Legends of Tomorrow:

Man, it really sucks that we don't get this in the US because the West views 'sincerity', 'genuine fun', and anything not live-action as "bullshit baby nonsense".

Flash #26 - Holy S***, Mark Waid Doesn't Miss A Beat

Alright, as anyone who's read the recent Si Spurrier Flash run can attest, the Scarlet Speedster hasn't exactly been in the best place.

Spurrier realized that a few months back and ducked out early, so DC asked Mark Waid to come back to Wally West and Impulse for the first time in like, what, 15 years?

And you know what? It's *damn good*. Like this feels like an issue right out of his Vol. 2 run.

Anybody else reading this? Anyone else finally hopeful Wally is going to get proper respect put to his name again?

The Arkham show is not coming in the DCU

Login to view embedded media As part of his Gods and Monsters early pitch after joining the MCU, James Gunn said the Arkham Show was one of his favorites. However, while speaking to Boba Talks, he confirmed that the show is not being developed by anyone at the DCU, and I actually think they are missing something important here.
In my opinion, the Arkham show would have been the DCU's behind-the-scenes view of Gotham. I mean, after watching Sofia Falcone in Penguin, I really got curious about Arkham and thought this show would expose a new side of the DC Universe that hasn't been shown on the screen yet. There is almost no DC villain that isn't linked to Arkham in one way or another, so why not show us one of the roots to the city's villainy.
However, he also confirmed that Lanterns in a central character to the DCU and that events in the show have significant connection to the whole Universe, so I'm thrilled for it.

Elizabeth Olsen gives the most ridiculous reason yet for not appearing in films that aren't meant for theatrical release

Elizabeth Olsen has always been a star of the theatres, and I like it. She has since said that she will no longer appear in projects that don't have a theatrical release. She is apparently interested in promoting human interaction.

“If a movie is made independently and only sells to a streamer, then fine. But I don’t want to make something where [streaming is] the end-all,” Olsen said. “I think it’s important for people to gather as a community, to see other humans, be together in a space. That’s why I like sports. I think it’s really powerful for people to come together for something that they’re excited about. We don’t even audition in person anymore.”

I understand that she sounds credible, although to an industry expert, this sounds like a purely self-serving ambition. Theatrical release means more exposure, better brand deals, and more money. Sadly, the same films released for theatres are now made available for streaming in a matter of days, because however much money a film makes in the theatres nowadays, the majority of people end up watching it on streamers.

Many films released straight to streaming have also proved to be way better than what is served in the theatres. Actually, looking at Superman, Fantastic Four: First Steps, and other big studio films that made losses in the theatres in recent years, it is fair to say that the studios are purely relying on streaming platforms to earn money, which means only a person who isn't reading the industry would say whatever she is saying.

So Paramount has the money to buy Warner Bros. But won't relent on the job cuts

The sale of Warner Bros is proving more distressing than I initially thought. According to Bloomberg, everyone wants HBO and the studio, but no one wants the Cable Networks. The only person willing to buy WB without splitting it is Paramount. Paramount, however, is currently cutting jobs as they seek to cut $2 billion in costs after their merger with Skydance.
Surely, if Paramount has the money to buy WB, they can spare another $2 billion in the short term to allow for a slower adjustment rather than the mass firing that seems to be their strategy at the moment.
Netflix and Comcast are interested in separate WB assets, though, so they would prefer the company to be split up, which I understand. A split serves the WB owners better too, since they believe the streaming networks and the studios will fetch more money if they are sold as a separate entity from the undesirable cable networks.
I'm sure David Ellison would have loved to buy the whole thing because that way, he and his dad, by extension, like Elon Musk, will now control what is probably the loudest cable network in the world while making money on the rest of the entities. I also dread the idea of Netflix taking over DC and my other favorite WB franchises because Netflix will treat them like Disney has done with Star Wars

Darkseid is not the big bad of the DCU. According to James Gunn, there is no single big bad really

In another interview, James Gunn shattered spirits by confirming he isn't trying to replicate the MCU. Apparently, Darkseid is not going to be the ultimate big bad of the MCU after all. Actually, Gunn doesn't think that the franchise needs an ultimate big bad, but I think he is wrong. One of the reasons why the MCU's infinity saga did so well is because everyone knew that every character, and scene across all the films and TV shows were in service of the one ultimate purpose of defeating Thanos.
I do understand the continuity nigtmare that comes with having a single big bad, but it also serves more benefits. If the DCU is to continue as a single unit, it has to have a common enemy for all the heroes to unite around. It doesn't have to be Darkseid but someone needs to be.

Kevin Costner's ex wife marries his former neighbor and friend days after she lost a child support increase case

Kevin Costner just can't catch a break, can he? So a quick catch up, since leaving Yellowstone, Costner used Santa Barbara home to raise an extra $100 million which he pumped into his passion project, the Horizon film trilogy. Unfortunately, the first film was a huge flop and the second one is stuck in limbo since one of the stuntswomen from the set has taken Costner to court accussing him of sexual harrassment.

Costner's then wife, Christine Baumgartner, filed for a divorce from him the same month that his exit from Yellowstone was formally announced and their divorce has been anything but easy. The last stroke came on September 8 when a judge gave Costner some relief, allowing him to continue paying $63,209 per month instead of the $161,592 Baumgartner was asking for as the judge termed her requests as "disguised spousal support."

Fast Forward to This weekend, Christine Baumgartner has married Costner's former friend and neighbor in a private wedding. Mind you, Costner always suspected that the two of them were more than friends long before their relationship was formalized.

Then comes what is probably the saddest statement any man could hear after all this, "Christine doesn’t think Kevin has anything to complain about,” the source added. “Josh has been Christine’s rock throughout the divorce ordeal. If Kevin has a problem with that, that’s on him." This was apparently said by a source close to Christine, but it sure does sound like a loud insult.

I really hope it gets easier for Costner going forward

Colman Domingo is Cowardly Lion in Wicked for Good

I keep getting more reasons to watch this film and I have to admit, it is getting really hot. I watched the first film, and it was all about Erivo and Grande, but they have taken the next step and I think Wicked for Good will be a lot better than Wicked, so I understand Oscars bells ringing on this one. I'm still dissatisfied with the rumored sexuality twist between Elphaba and Glinda, it is not in the books, so why bring it into the film? Otherwise the casting seems perfect so far

It seems Clayface will be the beginning of DC Horror as Speak No Evil director is picked

The first James Watkins film I ever watched was Eden Lake. I have to say it wasn't the best of films but it was dark. After Speak no Evil, I have to say he is good at turning a simple story into a horror experience. So Clayface is all about a B-Movie actor that injects hisself with a serum, turning him into the character we know, but with Watkins as the director, we could be totally deviating from the comics and going full-blown Friday The 13th here. Matt Reeves is still overseeing it, so it will have its fair share of realism, but now the DCU will have a horror branch it seems.

Kristen Bell's 12th anniversary celebration sounds more like a death threat

So I have been looking at Kristen Bell wishing her husband a happy 12th anniversay, and boy did she blow it.
This is what she wrote"
Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me:
“I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.”❤️

Disney rejected a Star Wars film set after The Rise of Sky Walker because they didn't see how "Ben Solo" was alive

I'm sorry, but I have to accuse Disney for playing a role in the decline of Star Wars at this point. According to a report on Forbes, the franchise isn't making much profit any more. Then today, I wake up to this news.
Login to view embedded media I mean, isn't overcoming the impossible the whole point of cinema? I'm actually afraid that they will introduce some MCU-like concept, with zero creativity and kill this franchise

Elon Musk's AI creates the best Sci-fi film yet

So Tilly Norwood recently raised eyebrows about how AI Actors could actually replace human actors, but let's face it Norwood isn't exactly the most threatening piece of invetion out there. However, after seeing this series of Sci-Fi film clips created by Elon Musk's AI, Grok, I have a feeling he could easily create Alita: Battle Angel without a single human actor and we probably wouldn't notice. I mean, look at it, all the motion is samless, as if no AI was involved in the creation, yet I'm sure it wasn't fed the best of scripts. Imagine if a full-length film script was fed to this thing?

Return To Cyrodiil.

Okay so I'm gonna open up an old wound.

I wrote an article where I basically concluded that the Oblivion Remaster should have been wake up call for studios and developers in the western RPG genre. I contended that the genre hasn't evolved much since the original release of Oblivion. I received some mixed responses in the comments section but never engaged with anyone back then.

What do you guys think?

Hey everyone It's Kevin. I'm back! I was golfing (or working on a golf course at least).

I predominantly write about video games but movies too from time to time. I love talking about games from my childhood and falling into depression when I think about the current state of things.

Also, I'm back for the season, so expect to see my braindead opinion on BIC throughout the holiday season. 😅

Hope to connect with everyone on this platform for the time I'm around. (y)

Prison Break is getting a spinoff, but it feels a little blunt

Hulu has ordered the project which will be led by Elgin James, set in the Priso Break Universe, but not connected to Wentworth Miller's Michael Scofield or Dominic Purcell's Lincoln Burrows. I don't know, the idea of a spinoff was probably too tempting for them, but there is never going to be a Prison Break without Michael, Lincoln and Sarah for me. Anyway, I hope they have a script good enough to convince us otherwise

Charlie Cox confirms he is not Daredevil in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Kevin Feige promised more separation between TV and film in the MCU and this seems to be the consequences. So, Spider-Man Brand New Day is set after Daredevil Born Again Season 2, so I thought the storylines would connect a bit. Charlie Cox, who was rumored to be in London, where Brand New Day is filming has however confirmed that he is not in the film. A Daredevil cameo is still possible, but Matt won't be fighting alongside Peter

Friday The 13th Prequel horror series Crystal Lake on A24

Login to view embedded media So the prequel is done filming and I hope it is scary enough to keep the franchise alive. A24 has been punching above their weight lately. I've personally been impressed by Opus and The Legend of Ochi. I'm sure of Jump scares in Crystal Lake because it is being developed by Caleb Kane, the same guy who is producing IT: Welcome To Derry. The show will be released on Peacock, and I'm sure it will be big because of the name, but I hope it lives up to the hype

Michael B Jordan in discussion for the Oscars for Sinners

Ryan Coogler has suggested that Jordan deserves an Oscar for his performance in Sinners. I totally understand him being in the discussion. However, personally, I would go for Coogler himself for best director. I still believe horror films have carried it this year, so I won't be shocked if one wins best picture

Apparently, there is another accident on the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day

The source isn't verified yet, but Mark Ruffalo, or probably his stunt double was taken from the set of the film in an ambulance. This comes just weeks after Tom Holland suffered a concussion while filming a stunt on the film. Now I'm wondering whether this is a film set or a war zone. Either way, I hope everyone is safe and the film wraps filming without another disruption
