  • Second Game Crash?

Nintendo, once the company that saved gaming, is now facing backlash for filing patents that could let it claim ownership over common gameplay mechanics, sparking fears it could stifle creativity and harm both major studios and indie developers alike.

  • So… Doctor Who Just Regenerated Into Rose Tyler?

According to writer Robert Shearman, the 15th Doctor’s regeneration into Billie Piper has basically put a full stop on the entire Doctor Who story. That’s a wild way to end things if he’s right. After all these years, do you think this is a fitting way to close the loop or does it feel more like the show’s run out of ideas?

‘Star Trek: Voyager’ Boss Says TV Hurt By Shorter Seasons, Shows Now Feel Like “Tinder Relationships”

The "lack of magic" doesn't have a thing to do with shorter seasons. It's all because of woke politics infecting entertainment and people who don't understand or care what Star Trek was always about. It also hurts that many actors on the shows have turned out to be regressive lunatics, with Tim Russ being the latest by disparaging Charlie Kirk's death in a sociopathic media post.

We've seen this exact same thing happen with too many other franchises. "Modern creatives" or woke execs pick something with an in-built fandom, try and shove their own version of it that betrays everything the original was about onto fans, and then attack them when audiences tune out. It's not hard to understand if you don't live in a regressive bubble like Braga does.

ABSOLUTELY this... 100 percent spot on. Modern Trek which I call the DisgraceryVerse has no lasting writing or quality to it. It has nothing to do with the Star Trek vision, puts the politics over any semblance of story. It's Science Fantasy, not Science Based fiction. All fluff and nonsensical in every way. Voyager had its problems, but it stayed TRUE to formula. NuTrek has no understanding of the real legacy of TruTrek.

this is a ridiculous reply. it is neither objective nor credible nor sensible. it is simply a hate-inspired anti-left reply! Sorry! there are far too many of these hate-filled, nonsensical comments on this site, that has zero to do with constructive discourse or logical discussion. Its simply, "I hate woke. the actors were woke. the show was woke". you seized upon the term lack of magic to give you the prefect excuse to launch into some tired, lame rant that justifies your own far-right political ideology. we get it. you're a trump supporter. who cares? give it a rest why dont you...

Star Trek now lacks character and, or thematically driven stories. Everyone has a favorite character who's typically human: Troi, Picar, Sisko, Chacote (sp?), and a non-human character: Spock, Data, Seven, or Odd. The stories revolve around well developed interesting characters. "The Shield,""The Closer," and "Rescue Me" (to name a few) have proven 18 episode seasons are long enough to hook people. These also remove the strange necessity for filler episodes (usually Christmas or non-continuity). Lastly, access is important. Why would I subscribe to Paramount+ for one or two shows. It's not worth it.

So you dislike the new Star Trek series. Too woke for you is it? Does not woke hook you enough? Never mind. Stick just to maga thinking!

You're making assumptions about my perspective. Reread my comment and get back to me.
So you are saying that you like so-called "woke" shows?

Star Trek now has lots of character and, or thematically driven stories. You say that everyone has a favorite character who's typically human: Troi, Picar, Sisko, Chacote (sp?), and a non-human character: Spock, Data, Seven, or Odd.
That is often the case with shows that have merely 6-10 episodes as well. Therefore, your selective point is flawed at best and biassed at worst. You cannot make bold generalisations, in an attempt to justify your anti-woke mindset.

"The Shield,""The Closer," and "Rescue Me" (to name a few) had proven that 18 episode seasons were long enough to hook people.
Most series at the time, followed the same formula. That does not necessarily prove that the networks did so to hook people and engage the unfettered attention of its viewers. It had been frequently cited that many of the episodes of these shows were mere padding, with trite story lines, poor character development and unremarkable acting on many occasions. There was also far less competition when "Dallas", "Rich man Poor Man", "DS9" etc, were being aired.

Now we have thousands of streaming channels; tons of subscription networks; loads of satellite stations; hundreds of reality tv shows; an avalanche of social media and podcast platforms; a multitude of social media influencers; a surfeit of sporting attractions; a plethora of live concerts; a surge in affordable holiday travel; an explosion of hospitality activities; plenty of outdoor dining interests; huge, tech related social engineering that includes online gaming and dating etc; each and everyone of these new trends and activities, desperately clamouring for our interest, our attention and most importantly, our disposable incomes. Can you truly envision an 18 episode tv show competing in this new reality. and environment, where the attention span of the present population is as fickle and brief as that of a child. It is a brave person indeed, who believes it makes financial sense to do so.

The fact that very few shows involve 18 episodes is most likely not through lack of character and other staid, predictable assumptions that you might believe. There are a host of factors that might decide that a surfeit of episodes is no longer a feasible option. It may be due to extreme and expanding levels of competition; network programming; restricting the work practices of the writers rooms; minimising actors wages and future residuals; meeting changing deadlines; increasingly, tight, programme scheduling; the increasing cost of productions, and of course, maximising profits. The old ways rarely apply in an ever changing, severely competitive, entertainment market. You and your kind term those factors WOKE politics and messaging. You types bemoan changing attitudes and positive, social actions. You hate progressive intent in entertainment. It is anathema to your thinking and belief systems. I am making assumptions about your perspective, most certainly. It is a perspective that populates sites such as this one, and one that tries very hard to disguise itself in moralistic-sounding, platitudes, that I have heard too many times to count.
