Okay so I'm gonna open up an old wound.

I wrote an article where I basically concluded that the Oblivion Remaster should have been wake up call for studios and developers in the western RPG genre. I contended that the genre hasn't evolved much since the original release of Oblivion. I received some mixed responses in the comments section but never engaged with anyone back then.

What do you guys think?

I feel that. Western RPGs have kind of been stuck in a loop for years. Oblivion still feels fresher than a lot of recent stuff, which says a lot about how little the genre has really evolved. Your article sounds like it hit a nerve, probably because it calls out something a lot of people quietly notice but don’t want to admit 😅

Okay, this is sorta completely off-topic, and I don't want to derail, but I legitimately scrolled past this and read it as 'Return to Crocodil' and I was like 'DANG, what new esports tech am I unaware of?'
Funny one. Anyway, I agree with @KevGee here, western RPGs need more love from developers. They just aren't evolving and they are bound to die at some point
