Is James Gunn right to bring Brainiac into the DCU this early?

So, rumors suggest that Man of Tomorrow is all about Brainiac. I'm actually scared of the character, especially after the creepy version of him was introduced recently in Absolute Universe. I'd say Brainiac is DC's ultimate villain, with zero empathy and pure evil. This, in my opinion is a universe-ending villain, not one to be introduced this early.
However, most sources now agree that Gunn's script for Man of Tomorrow has Lex Luthor and Superman teaming up to take on Brainiac. I see this probably dragging beyond a single film, but I still feel David Corenswet's Superman needs time to acclimate with the DCU fan base before saving the universe.
