Do we really need a John Rambo prequel?

I think lack of originality will be the death of the industry at this rate. So, Noah Contineo, an otherwise unknown actor, is completing the deal to lead the upcoming reboot of the Rambo franchise at Lionsgate. The first film will be a prequel to John Rambo, which I see as an insult. I think Rambo was perfect as a stand-alone franchise, and it has already been milked long enough.
Hollywood has no shortage of original stories and talented writers, why can't they come up with the next idea of an original film like Rambo? I understand, betting on original films doesn't aways pay off, but a John Rambo prequel is an equally risky gamble, because I don't think the world is dying to see what Stallone's character looked like before he went on a rampage that day.

Yeah, totally with you on that not every classic needs a prequel or reboot. Part of what made Rambo work was the mystery behind the character, so I'm not really interested in seeing every detail spelled out

It depends on what they wanted to do with it. Putting aside the subsequent "war is cool" Rambos, the original Rambo was about the traumatic experiences of Vietnam veterans. What could a prequel add to that? Another pointless action flick? Or another derivative Vietnam War drama that would now actively mirror the war in Ukraine, the Gaza conflict, or Trump's potential war with Venezuela to be "relevant"?

War films are always great to watch when they get the right script. However, in this case, I can see them coming up with the same trope scripts about war veterans and using Rambo to make money out of it. I have no problem with a Rambo-inspired film at this point, but I just don't think the franchise needs to deal with the potential fallout of another film; it has had enough of those already.
