Will Avatar: Fire and Ash be the highest-grossing film of the year?

I really love how James Cameron customizes his films for a good theater run. No leaks, just enough hype and decent marketing that ensures fans always get surprised in the theater. I know he spoke of the $2.3 billion record being broken, and while it may be hard, I do have the feeling thisvwill be the highest earning film this year.

Thoughts on James Cameron calling Netflix's acquisition of WB a disaster

I understand that Netflix has been a nightmare for theaters for years. However, the company has grown to coexist and even help some theatrical-release films get a desperately needed chance at making money. They haven't given any indication that they plan on destroying WB's longstanding relationship with theaters, either, so dismissing them as a disaster feels a little shortsighted of James Cameron and Co. , if you ask me. Paramount Skydance might seem like the Hollywood darling at the moment, but I don't think they are necessarily any better for the industry judging by their actions since taking over Paramount. In conclusion, I think we should give the free market a chance here.

So EA was Netflix's first priority! WB might not like this

After Paramount Skydance launched a hostile takeover bid of $108 billion to rival Netflix's $82 billion, it has now emerged that Netflix was outbid in a move for EA. I love Netflix's ambition, but I think they are pushing a little too hard. They will geeventually t a win abut WB seems to be a lost cause at this point.

AMA with Rippaverse's Chuck Dixon On 12/11 @ 1pm EST

Another AMA coming soon! Next up is Chuck Dixon, writer at Rippaverse!

Chuck Dixon is one of the most prolific comic book writers of our time and has worked on some of the most iconic characters in the pantheon of American comics. His creative presence has a ripple effect to augment and bolster the writers around him, and he, paired with superstar artist Joe Bennett, has proven time and again to be a truly dynamic duo force of creation within our comic book universe. Bearing the responsibility of being the caretaker of Alphacore, Chuck has also brought forth original creations Horseman and Zalen to the Rippaverse world, making him a foundational contributor to the building of the Rippaverse universe.

We are so excited and honored to be able to have Chuck Dixon here for this AMA. Bring your questions about anything and everything and leave them below!

Did anyone else feel Freya Allen's pain when Henry Cavill left The Witcher?

Login to view embedded media No disrespect to Liam Hemsworth, but Henry Cavill will always be Geralt for me. I actually believe that his leaving was a bad idea. I understand he cherished the idea of becoming Superman again, but then, if nothing was concrete yet, he shouldn't have rushed to leave the show. He is no longer Superman, and now he isn't Geralt; it's truly a double tragedy.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is also on board! Is denying AI involvement the new marketing gimmick for movies?

Don't even start on which AI is good and which one is bad, the moment the term generative was used before AI, I lost faith in his words. If you are going to embrace creativity and the human touch for a film, then go all out and do it the Guillermo Del Toro way. I'm still gonna watch the film, but these claims are getting a lot less trustworthy if you ask me. Every director will soon praise themselves for the kind of AI they didn't use on their film, but that isn't the point, is it?

Thoughts on Justin Lin directing the upcoming Helldivers live-action movie!

Since its announcement in January 2025, the Helldivers movie has received another update. Justin Lin, who directed most of the Fast & Furious films, is set to both direct and produce it. The film is definitely gold to anyone who has played the game. However, Lin's style, as seen in Fast & Furious, is all action and visuals with little content. So, the writing was done by Gary Dauberman, who wrote Anabelle and IT, so I'm a lot more confident with the story, but I'm still concerned about Lin turning this into his next high-octane hit with all noise and no substance.

Michelle Monaghan says she no longer takes off her shoes to accommodate shorter actors! But the is that really the way to go?

I believe this scene from Mission Impossible III practically made Monaghan's career. I personally have nothing against her, but I think her rule is off the charts. No one gets to choose their height, so I don't understand what is wrong with putting off your shoes to accommodate them. I haven't seen a great film of hers since Made of Honor, by the way, and maybe her standards have played a role in that.

Deadpool & Wolverine actually cost $533 million! Why are Superhero films so expensive?

1000507280.jpg

The net budget is around $430 million but that is still high. At such a high cost, if a film doesn't gross at least $1 billion, it really can't be profitable. I do understand the industry has evolved, but at such a high cost, any studio would seek cost-cutting methods. At least the film made $1.3 billion in this case, but what about those that didn't?

Seriously! In what bubble were Home Alone star's children raised?

Home Alone is the film most families watch over the holidays, so I would expect Macaulay Culkin's kids to be proud of their dad's biggest career achievement. However, the kids apparently don't even know that it is him in the film! Now, I'm not saying he is a liar, but doesn't the family at least discuss it during gatherings? I fail to understand how his own kids would fail to know that their dad is one of the greatest child actors of all time.

Should Avatar end with Fire and Ash?

James Cameron is a legendary creator because there is no other way to describe his success with the Avatar franchise. He now says he is ready to pull the plug on the franchise if the film flops. I'm certain the film will make lots of money as it is riding on nostalgia too. However, great producers generally stand by their work whether they are doing well or not. I think, if he has the story for at least one final Avatar film, he should totally go for it.

Stranger Things Season 5 is, hands down, one of the best TV Series endings of all tim!

As expected, the final season arrived with all the drama, starting with Netflix crashing. I have to say, the season started off darker than any of the previous ones. However, it slowly grows on you and everything comes together nicely. Nothing hurried, plot points meticulously covered, most characters getting exactly what they deserve; it is awesome. The Duffer brothers dedicate their time to ensuring the show remains in conversation among the best of all time. The wait was worth it in my opinion.

Far Cry finally gets a TV series at FX

Far_Cry_1_boxshot.jpg

Alien: Earth writer Noah Hawley is taking the lead on this one, and I have a positive feeling. Far Cry could easily become the next big video-game-based TV series. It seems the creation will be faithful to the game too, as it will be released in the same anthology format. Can't wait to see how they bring this dynamic island to life.

Scarlett Johansson set to lead the next Exorcist movie!

1000503871.jpg
Scarlett Johansson really is overworking. After Jurassic Park Rebirth, she has signed on to lead the next installment of The Exorcist. I actually gave up hope on The Exorcist, just as I had on Jurassic Park, but this could give the franchise a new lease of life. Johansson has totally reinvented her career after Disney did her dirty with The Widow and I'm loving it.

What do you think of Vincent D'Onofrio as Swamp Thing?

1000503488.jpg

It seems Kingpin really wants to come to the DCU. Swamp Thing is one of the DCU characters I'm praying that James Gunn gets perfectly. I'm open to a big-name actor in the role, but I don't support a popular MCU star like D'Onofrio in the role. I'm in for a surprise with this one. Someone from the sidelines, just like Corenswet would be perfect in my opinion.

$9 million for Superman, that is mad!

1000503138.jpg

Login to view embedded media This is the highest amount ever paid for a comic book and I belive it cements Superman as the king of the comics. DC classics are actually very valuable, because the same record was smashed last year by Action Comics #1 at $6 million. I am still waiting for the day someone spends $100 million on a cool piece of comics though.
