Tom Cruise finally got an honorary Oscar at the Governor's Awards 2025, and while it feels deserved, it doesn't even feel sufficient. In any list of dedicated actors that more than deserve an Oscar, Tom Cruise gets in every every 99 times out of 100, so it is baffling how it has taken this long for him to bag an honorary one.
The whole room seems to have felt the same as they gave him a near two-minute-long standing ovation before his speech. He said making movies is not what he does, it is who he is, and surely, I couldn't agree more. Congratulations to him.
