If you could only choose one, what matters most in an anime?

If you had to pick just one thing that makes or breaks an anime for you, what would it be?

That's tough, I think overall story matters to me most at the end of the day, but art style is definitely a close second

I was trying to decide which is better/worse
1. Good relatable characters without a decent plot
2. A good plot with boring characters

I think the characters are the most important... A copy/paste plot (insert typical Heroes Journey, Save the Cat, etc..) I still think is great as long as it has an interesting relatable character, and also a unique / interesting setting to set it apart.
