Before this new comment system, I already remarked about what I found during a shallow dive into Microsoft and Xbox's financials on a similar article. What I found was years of incompetent leadership, wasted money, and the pursuit of unsustainable business practices like MTX and paid loot boxes. As well as complete failures to see any hope of a ROI on their acquisitions of Activision and Bugthesda.
Put another way, Microsoft Games Subsidiary made every bad decision they could and are now desperate to stay afloat. Except they've already lost too much--money and customer faith--to ever recover. At best, they'll have to shut down Xbox and get out of the console business altogether. At worst, MGS will be gutted and exist on paper only.
