‘Our Value Was Never Disrespected’: Hollywood Career Producers Are Battling Actors, Greedy Managers, Penny-Pinching Execs and Stolen Credits to Survive
Inside Producers United, a collective fighting for the survival of TV and film producers in Hollywood amid rapid industry changes.
I used to see film producers as the privileged bag men and women of production, but this demand by Producers United has changed my view on the matter. With fewer films being produced and big studios seeing producers as "menial labor," Hollywood runs the risk of alienating this important aspect of production and rendering some of the industry's brightest minds jobless.
The new rules set by the organization might not really help much since many big studios don't even recognize Producers United since they are not a labor union, unlike writers, actors, and directors. So, is it high time the role of a producer was redefined? Because at this rate, despite being seen as the responsible party for the final product, they just don't get the credit they deserve anymore.
